Internet Cafe Names

One of the best things about starting an internet cafe is naming it. Our short list of names may not include your winner, but it is sure to get the naming juices flowing.



Here are the basics on naming your cafe. As long as you will be the only business using that name in your state, and any other users of the name have not gone out and gotten full-fledged trademarks and logos registered with the US government (then they have rights to the name nationwide), you can use the name. Be careful, though, because in rare cases if you pick a name that is very similar to a registered name, even if its in another state, if that company has an overzealous lawyer, you could get the dreaded letter that tells you to change your business name asap or prepare to be sued.

To check if the name you want is "available", do a quick Google search, then check local phone books and online phone directories. You can also go to https://www.directincorporation.com/name_search and use their free name search tool. Print out the results and save them in your startup files... just in case you need to prove that you at least attempted to make sure the name was not taken five years from now. If you are using a lawyer already, its a very good idea to let them know which name you want and ask them for any specific directions they can give you.

So what's a good name? The classic tips for names are that they should be 1) short 2) memorable 3) have positive associations with them. The big thing is not to make people think too hard to figure out what you do based on your name. As an internet cafe, its not like you're some consulting company in a weird niche of design work, so there's not a lot of chance for confusion (and most of your traffic is going to be from walkbys and referrals anyway). Just keep it simple, keep it nice, and hopefully make it easy to remember.
